Researchers of Kazan State Technological University have designed the innovative technology of molybdenum catalyst based propylene oxide, phenol and acetone production and created “General Chemical Technology” for practical purposes as well. Technology will include technological regulations and designing data.

Kharlampidi Kharlampiy Evklidovich – Director, Doctor of chemical sciences, Head of the Department of General Chemical Technology of Kazan National Research Technological University (Kazan State Chemical Technological Institute).

Miroshkin Nikolay Petrovich – chief (production) engineer, deputy head, candidate of technical sciences, associate professor of the Department of General Chemical Technology of Kazan State Technological University.  

Karalin Ernest Aleksandrovich - production manager, science counselor in chemical thermodynamics, kinetics, heterogeneous catalysis, chemistry and technology of hydrogenation, dehydration, doctor of technical sciences, associate professor of the Department of General Chemical Technology of Kazan National Research Technological University (Kazan State Chemical Technological Institute).

Ksenofontov Dmitriy Vyacheslavovich – chief mechanic, science counselor, candidate of technical sciences, associate professor of the Department of General Chemical Technology of Kazan National Research Technological University (Kazan State Chemical Technological Institute).

Batyrshin Nikolay Nikolayevich – chief chemist, science counselor, professor of the Department of General Chemical Technology of Kazan National Research Technological University (Kazan State Chemical Technological Institute).

Product

In propylene oxide process developed by the General Chemical Technology (OHT) there is no rigid connection between yield of propylene oxide and co-products - phenol and acetone that gives the opportunity to obtain these products at any ratio. The offered technology is basically similar to the Halkon method and differs in an epoxidation agent (cumene hydroperoxide) and a new nanostructured catalyst on the basis of metal molybdenum and hydrogen peroxide (or cumene hydroperoxide).

«ОHT» OOO filled a patent application for invention “Method of producing of olefin oxides” No. 2010127100/04(038594).

An analysis of the market

As leading competitors of propylene oxide producing technologies market can be named following foreign companies: Sumitomo, Chemical Co., Ltd. Target consumers of the technology of molybdenum catalyst based propylene oxide, phenol and acetone production are enterprises of chemical industry such as OAO «Nizhnekamskneftekim», «PO «Khimprom» OOO, «Sibur» Holding, OAO «Kazanorgsintez».

Annual world production of propylene oxide is about 8 millions ton and increases by more than 5 % every year. Largest source nature countries: USA, Netherlands, China, France, Germany, Spain, Russia, India, Japan, Singapore, Korea, Brazil and others. Largest transnational source nature companies: Huntsman, Lyondell Chemical, Repsol YPF, Dow Chemical.

Potential propylene oxide demand on Russian market amounts to more than 100 thousands ton. Thereby new production of propylene oxide may take up to 15% of market share.

Main advantages of the project:

- Application of new technology considerably simplifies producing of epoxidation process catalysts and increases their activity and selectivity.

- Availability to get another valuable product – alphamethylstirol.
